Wichita Symphony Orchestra
Wichita Symphony Orchestra is the only professional organization of its kind within 200 miles. Presentations include Classical Subscription Concerts on Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons, chamber music, pops and Young People’s Concerts during a seven-month season from October through April. A special outdoor concert on Kennedy Plaza climaxes the River Festival each May.
Ballet Wichita
Since 1973, Ballet Wichita has been a regional leader in dance, performing original and classical full-length dance productions in Wichita and on tours to communities throughout the state. The company performs for over 20,000 people annually, has both an Institute for Ballet and a highly regarded comprehensive outreach programming, receiving awards from the NEA and the Kansas Health Foundation. Ballet Wichita received the 2015 City of Wichita Best Arts Organization.
Wichita Grand Opera
Kansas’ first professional opera company, Wichita Grand Opera, has rapidly grown to become an important cultural asset for Kansas and the Midwest. The company’s productions fuse major international star artists, directors and conductors with the best Kansas talent to produce an opera experience that is acclaimed locally and nationally.
Other Music and Dance Events
- Music Theatre of Wichita presents the best musical theatre entertainment in the state. Broadway professionals and local talent present five musicals during the Summer each year.
- Wichita State University College of Fine Arts Connoisseur Series hosts national touring companies. WSU also offers faculty recitals, opera, symphony, band, jazz and dance presentations from Septmeber to April.
- Friends University features many musical events and groups including The Nutcracker Ballet, Christmas Candlelight, drama, opera, music theatre, band, orchestra, jazz concerts, and the Singing Quakers.
- Newman University holds a variety of concerts throughout the year featuring their madrigals and chorale, with a special Candlelight Christmas concert in St. John’s Chapel.
- The Air Capital Barbershop Chorus Performs for many local events & has an annual show in the spring at Century II Theater.
- The Wichita Blues Society is an organization dedicated to the preservation, education and the enjoyment of America’s musical art form known as the BLUES.
